Catholics for Choice Canada is a 20 year old network of Catholic-rooted feminists in Canada working with other groups to assure that reproductive services remain available to all Canadian women. Although abortion was decriminalized in Canada in 1988 vigilance must be maintained lest women's status slip backwards. Abortion services are not available in all provinces.
We reason from the fundamental Catholic principle of primacy of conscience and of respect for woman's moral agency.
We issue public statements in support of this position, respond to media inquiries, and challenge official anti- choice statements of the Canadian Catholic bishops.
We work closely with Catholics for Choice in the U.S and with the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada.
We seek to educate politicians , health practitioners and clerics in regard to alternative theologies around reproduction than the one presented by the official church, and to give support to Catholic women."
We have no website at present. Our power lies in our relationships and ongoing collaborations with other faith-based feminist groups.
